The first summer school on ‘Modern Science and Orthodox Tradition’ will be held at the Orthodox Academy of Crete from the 5th to the 9th of June 2017. The programme is a collaboration organised by the Institute of Historical Research of the National Research Foundation and the OAC. This effort is part of the broader research programme entitled "Science and Orthodoxy around the World", which is being carried out by the Institute for Historical Research under the direction of the project leader Dr Efthimios Nicolaides, and is funded by the Templeton World Charity Foundation.

Dr Konstantinos Zorbas, General Director of the OAC, welcomed the participants. He referred to the OAC's experience in the issues relating to the dialogue between science and religion, derived primarily through the holding of scientific conferences, while at the same time he expounded on aspects of the subject under discussion based on formal texts of the Holy and Great Council of the Orthodox Church, which took place at the OAC last summer.
