Dr Dimitrios Kollintzas

Dimitrios Lyk. Kollintzas was born in Athens in 1977. He has a Bachelor’s Degree of Ecclesiastical Music & Psaltic Art (Patriarchal University Ecclesiastical Academy of Crete, 2015) and a Master’s Degree in Buzantine Musicology & Hymnology (Theological School of Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, 2018). In 2023, he was awarded PhD by the Department of Music Studies of the A.U.Th. with grade "Excellent" with supervising professor Emm. Giannopoulos. The Doctoral thesis was prepared with a scholarship from the State Scholarships Foundation (I.KY.).

He holds a Degree and Diploma in Byzantine Music. He has received courses in byzantine music Paleography, Western music theory, classical guitar, Ottoman music, and qanun. He has also received training in Special Education (Univ. of Mac.), as well as a Pedagogical & Teaching Proficiency Certification in the Arts (Ionian University).

He teaches byzantine music, qanun and theory courses at the “Venizelio” Conservatory (Chania), the "Ioannis Manioudakis" Conservatory (Chania) and the Music School of Rethymnon. Since 2007 he has served as a cantor in Chania and he is a member of the Byzantine Choir of Chania. He is the founder and artistic director of the multi-member traditional & church music Orchestra "Idyphonia". He has participated in six digital records of Byzantine and traditional music and he has done presentations at Musicological Conferences and Workshops. He has had articles published in scientific journals and he has written three musicological Monographs.

Since 2021 he is a research associate of the University of Crete and the Historical Archive of Crete. His research interests include Byzantine Musicology, Paleography, Ethnomusicology, fieldwork and recording of local musical traditions.

As an external scientific partner of the Orthodox Academy of Crete, he organizes and coordinates meetings, conferences, educational and research programs in the fields of culture, art and tradition.
