On Wednesday July 26, 2017, at the Kolympari harbour, the Spatha Football Club of Kolympari, organised a "Cretan Night" with some of the best-known lyra players and musicians of Crete, to say thank you to local citizens for their contribution to the community.

At this great annual celebration, the official bodies of the Athletic Association expressed particular gratitude to the General Director of the OAC, Dr. Konstantinos Zorbas, for his numerous contributions to community life, and a special honorary plaque was presented to him by Emmanuel Katsifarakis, President of the Spatha Club.

Dr Zorbas thanked him for this honorary distinction, noting in particular that "this honour is deserved by many people: the Holy Monastery of Gonia that offered the space, the founders, the workers, but most of all the people of Kolympari, the ordinary citizens of the village, suppliers, hoteliers, managers, the teachers in our schools, parents, friends, so many of them, who make our daily collaboration possible. Above all, our thanks to the Regional Administration of Crete and the Municipality of Platanias for the excellent cooperation ... All of us together, we are the Academy.

The OAC would like to express its warm thanks to the President and members of the Board of Directors for their decision to honour us in this way and hopes that ‘Spatha’ will continue to hold its sword high!”*‘spathi’ being the Greek word for sword
