Celebration of Saint Makarios at the OAC

On Monday 19 January 2015 we celebrate the honor of Saint Makarios of Egypt, to whom the Orthodox Academy of Crete has dedicated a chapel on the rocks to the north of the Foundation.

On Sunday 18 January, in the afternoon at 16.00, there will be vespers at the chapel.

People who wish to honor Saint Makarios are invited to participate in the vesper mass.

The project for art and literature, which has been developed by the Academy for many years now on an international level, is based on a story by Saint Makarios, containing strong spiritual messages regarding human communication and the existence of human beings ‘face to face’. More than 350 works from artists from all the continents have already been donated and are exhibited at the OAC. In the difficult times we are going through in Greece as well as Europe as a whole, it is crucial that we rediscover the real meaning of relationships, which are based on our ‘face to face’ society.
