ORTHODOX ACADEMY OF CRETE
The Orthodox Academy of Crete is a public welfare institution in canonical relationship with the Holy Metropolis of Kisamos and Selinon; it operates under the spiritual auspices of His All Holiness the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople. The OAC is administered by a 10 member board under the presidency of His Eminence, the Metropolitan of Kissamos and Selinon Amphilochios.
The basic mission of the OAC is the dialogical witness and the liturgical ministry of Orthodoxy in the modern world; therefore it is devoted to the cultivation of the spirit of dialogue between Orthodoxy and other confessions and religions, and also between faith, science and culture.
Inspired by the platonic tradition of symphilosophein (co-philosophising), the OAC aspires at being a place of dialogue and spiritual exchange in service of God and the human person.

"PEOPLE FOR PLANTS, PLANTS FOR PEOPLE"
Wishes from the new General Director of the OAC
Dr. Konstantinos B. Zormpas
“…old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.” (2 Cor 5: 17)
A few days ago Christianity has celebrated the birth of Christ, “God becoming human…”! God “from outside realm” enters in history, in the space, in the world. He wears “the inalienable human figure, so that the human being can be released from the restrictions of the human nature. A heavenly and earthly celebration; “the earthly is dancing together with the heavenly”. Human being can live from now on the eternal, what is beyond the restrictions of human weaknesses, the perfect and the Holy!
The dialogical witness of the “new” and the liturgical diaconal of the Orthodox theological truth in the modern world are the work and mission of the Orthodox Academy of Crete (OAC) from its foundation until today. The center of its reflection is the human being as an eternal spiritual value! It embraces with respect the fatigue and the sufferings of the human beings, studies the crisis and the judgments, observes the modern world concerns (e.g. in Syria, Egypt, Europe), seeks “justice and peace” (Ps. 72:7) in the drama of the human history.
With the wishes and blessing of this All Holiness the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomaios I., His Eminence the Metropolitan of Kisamos and Selinon Amphilochios, President of the Administrative Board of the OAC and its members, we take on the duty to serve the multifaceted work of the OAC, respecting the legacy and trust of its founders, and its course on an international, European, national and local level, teaching “the sound doctrine” and “what is good and profitable to men” (Tit. 2:1 and 3:8).
Together with my staff, we would like to thank the numerous friends of the OAC for their seasonal greetings and we wish to them and all the worldwide fellowship of the OAC a blessed, peaceful and creative New Year 2014!
The General Director of the OAC
Dr. Konstantinos B. Zormpas
