Museum Education Programs for Schools

The Orthodox Academy of Crete (OAC) created for the new school year 2015-2016 a new series of innovative Museum Education Programs for school groups.

The Orthodox Academy of Crete (OAC) created for the new school year 2015-2016 a new series of innovative Museum Education Programs for school groups. Students will have the opportunity, through educational and recreational activities (tour of the key areas of the OAC, short talks by scientific collaborators of the Foundation, dramatic play, sedentary and kinetic games, art activities, screenings, educational leaflets etc.), to experience the rare exhibits of the Museum of Cretan Herbs, be initiated with experiential way to the secrets of hagiography, discover important books in the Foundation’s Library "The Light" and receive important information about the work and activities of the OAC. The central theme of reflection of the above actions will focus on the concept of "Democracy" and the idea of ??"Europe", through the texts of Nikos Kazantzakis, Pandelis Prevelakis and Eirinaios Galanakis (late Metropolitan of Kissamos and Selinon).

This school year is of special significance for the Foundation because of the startup of the digital library “The Light”, which has been converted into a charming reading area, and access to traditional and other original games. The space of the library, in addition to existing educational programs, can be used after consultation with the leaders of the Foundation for Innovative actions for students of Primary and Secondary Education. All educational programs - combined with special educational activities- give the opportunity for students, but also the general public, to learn about the OAC activities through exercise and specific didactic principle of self-activity.

Groups are supervised by the Foundation’s scientific partners, who in cooperation with special museum educators, aimed at primary school students, junior high and high school, with the aim of activation and participation of school groups from the Public and Private Schools in Crete, as well as all over Greece in the following two (2) Programs:

Museum education program for primary school students:

Educational Program Title: "A walk in the Orthodox Academy of Crete".

Program duration: Two (2) hours.

Museum education program for junior high and high school students

Educational Program Title: "A beacon of Orthodoxy in the west of Crete".

Program duration: Two (2) hours.
