This is one of the oldest and most successful programs of the Orthodox Academy of Crete (OAC) since 1968.
Thousands of non-orthodox people from several countries, in the first line Roman-Catholic and Protestant Church leaders, but also professors and students of theology, pastors and members of parishes etc., have taken part in this program.
The whole program is based on the dialogue and common reflection on the unity of the Church. It includes encounters with local parishes and lectures on Orthodoxy, with emphasis on history, liturgy, iconography, monasticism, orthodox spirituality, the role of man and woman in the life of the Church, Orthodoxy and Ecumenism, as well as burning issues of our times, such as Orthodoxy in Europe, bio-ethical questions etc. Upon request, other subjects can be added.
Excursions to places related to the New Testament and the ancient Church, to monasteries and places of historical and archaeological interest are also organized. An introduction to the work of the OAC highlights the response of the Orthodox Church to contemporary challenges.
These seminars usually have a duration of 7-10 days. Housing at the OAC with full-board (traditional Cretan cuisine) is usual.
A similar program, but with more emphasis on historical, social and cultural issues concerning Crete, is Crete yesterday and today.
