The Academy of Athens honours the Academy of Crete

In a moving atmosphere, the Academy of Athens awarded the Orthodox Academy of Crete (OAK) with the Silver Medal, on the occasion of the fifty years since its foundation and in recognition of its great contribution to the international promotion of Orthodoxy, peace, reconciliation and cooperation among religions, as well as to society as a whole.

The public ceremony began with a speech by the President of the Academy of Athens, Mr Loukas Papadimos, on the theme: "The future of the European Union: Vision, challenges and prospects". Next, the General Secretary of the Academy of Athens, Mr Vasilios C. Petrakos, presented his report on the work of the Academy in the year 2017.

This was followed by the presentation of honorary awards by the President of the Academy. A total of 45 awards were presented in the three fields of Science, Letters and Fine Arts, Ethics and Political Sciences.

At the formal ceremony, the Medal was accepted by the President of the Foundation, His Eminence the Metropolitan Amphilochios of Kissamos and Selinos. The ceremony was also attended by the General Director of the OAC, Dr Konstantinos Zorbas and friends of the Academy.
